Mr Bruce, 29, a renewable energy lawyer who lives in Dundee, declared his intention to stand in a video address to local members.

Educated at Meldrum Academy in Aberdeenshire, he holds law degrees from both the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh as well as a Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Dundee.

He has been an active member of the SNP since 2011 and, before beginning to practise law, worked for the party at both Holyrood and Westminster.

Mr Bruce said: “Over the past weeks, I have met with SNP members across Dundee and Angus.

"Through these conversations I have been encouraged to put myself forward to seek nomination to be the SNP's candidate for the seat and have informed the Arbroath and Broughty Ferry Westminster Campaign Committee of this intention.

“There is much to do over the next parliamentary term and we will need best minds, serious thinking, and fresh faces to meet its challenges.

"With experience in renewable energy - a sector at the heart of Scotland’s biggest opportunity and the world’s biggest challenges - a proven track record in the party, and considerable experience of campaigning in Dundee and the rural north east, I believe I have what it takes to be a strong voice for the people of Arbroath and Broughty Ferry at Westminster.”
