Forfar-born Kerr currently sits in the Scottish Parliament and previously served as the MP for Stirling between 2017 and 2019, prior to which he had a long career in business. He is married with four grown-up children.

He said he is delighted to be selected by local Party members to be their candidate: “I was born and brought up in this part of Scotland and joined the Scottish Conservative Party when I was still at Forfar Academy.

“It is the greatest honour to have been selected by my Party to contest this new seat for the Scottish Conservatives and I will give it my all. I will be campaigning on local issues and look forward to meeting residents and businesses across North Perthshire and Angus over the coming weeks and months.”

Graham Rees, chairman of Perth and Kinross Conservatives, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have someone with such a solid track-record standing for the Scottish Conservative and Unionist team in North Tayside and we look forward to working with Stephen.”

Robert Galloway, chairman of Angus Conservatives added: “It’s great to welcome Stephen Kerr back to his home area.

"In Stephen we have a great candidate, a local Forfar boy, a passionate unionist with a detailed grasp of Scottish politics and someone with a great enthusiasm for campaigning.”
