Angus MP says Scots ‘poorer for leaving the EU’

Local MP Dave Doogan has said that Sir Keir Starmer’s approach to Brexit has left voters across his Angus constituency poorer.

It comes as the SNP obtained figures from the House of Commons library which show the loss of direct EU funding to Scotland which the party has said is a result of Brexit, with the UK Government failing to meaningfully replace these long-standing funds, hurting local economies.

Mr Doogan has maintained that with the “pro-Brexit Labour party” offering voters no route back into the European Union, only independence can deliver Scotland's return.

He said: “People here in Angus and across Scotland can feel the calamitous impact of Brexit, whether through the loss of work, travel and study opportunities or Westminster’s abject failure to replace lost funding from the EU. Yet both the Tories and Starmer’s pro-Brexit Labour party have decided to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the truth - that Brexit has been a failure and that Scotland’s people are poorer for leaving the EU.

“Whilst the cost-of-living crisis continues to ravage on, and the two Westminster parties squabble over sticking plasters to fix the chaos, the SNP are the only party focused on supporting communities across Scotland and lifting people out of poverty. At the next general election, a vote for the SNP is a vote to reject the failures of Brexit, tackle the cost of living crisis and re-join the EU with independence.”
