Romans in Angus under antiquarian society spotlight
This month’s talk will be given by Alasdair Sutherland and will be a presentation on ‘The Romans in Scotland and Tayside’.
Alasdair, a former librarian with Angus Council, spent much of his working life researching and presenting talks on Scottish history, with a particular emphasis on the history of Angus. He has always been struck by how big a role Angus has played in the nation’s story.

He has said that “Popular history tells us that a Roman army invaded Scotland in 79 AD – or 84 AD, or 85 AD – and defeated the Caledonians at the Battle of Mons Graupius – and that is about all! Archaeology, however, tells us a very different and much fuller story”.
On this occasion, the meeting will be held by Zoom. Members will be sent a link, but information on how to attend the meeting online can be obtained from [email protected] and those attending should join the meeting at 7.20pm for a 7.30pm start time.
