Roselea, on the back of two home wins, were looking to make it three in a row when Deveronside visited Links Park for the second week running.

The visitors put on a good show in the Quest Cup match, going down 2-0, and caused Roselea problems.

Roselea began the day in ninth place sandwiched between six teams with a small number of points separating them, so a win would be useful against the bottom side in the league.

In eight minutes Greig whipped a great ball across the face of the goal and three Roselea players were a whisker away from contact.

Deveronside took the lead with a great goal.

Duiguid tackled Davidson just outside the centre circle and spotted McCormack off his line. He sent a perfect strike over his head from 35 yards to open the scoring.

Roselea looked to get back into the game but, despite Greig and Bailey getting into good positions, they could not break down the visitors.

Roselea came out in determined fashion in the second-half but the first 20 minutes of did not see either team really create much.

The game turned on its head in the 70th minute.

Matheson cut inside and chipped McCormack who managed to get a touch on the ball and when it came down off the bar there was a scramble on the line that Soutar managed to clear.

Roselea finally got the breakthrough and it was created by a great run and right footed cross from Thomson which Garnham netted.

Roselea went ahead on 76 minutes with a great overhead kick from Liam Bailey when the ball broke to him in the box.

It went from bad to worse for Deveronside when Roselea were awarded a needless penalty when Greig was pushed in the box going for a header when there was no danger. Alberts took the kick and smashed the ball past Sutherland.

Roselea sent on Jamieson for Alberts and Gill for Davidson with the game now won.

Roselea made it 4-1 in the closing minutes when Garnham grabbed his second of the game with another good finish.

A club spokesman said: “This ended up looking an easy win for the home side but the truth is they made hard work of it.

"Had they taken some of the early chances then it could have been far easier.

"Deveronside did not look like a team rooted to the bottom of the league and they should get a lift from their two performances at Montrose and kick on with a good run of games coming up. The win lifts Roselea into eighth position in the league and they have a couple of games in hand over Banchory and East End who lie in fifth and sixth.

This weekend Roselea travel to Hermes in the North Regional Cup and will want to put in a better performance than they did in their last visit when they went down 8-1 in the league. Kick off is at 2pm
