Montrose Independent Councillor, Mark Salmond is seeking re-election in the May Angus Council election.

Mr Salmond was elected 19 years ago and over the years has served in opposition and administrations, holding senior posts of finance convener and children and learning and communities convener.

He said: “Angus Council has changed massively, with budget’s now tighter than ever and extremely difficult funding decisions on the horizon for the newly elected councillors. I believe that my knowledge and experience will help support first time councillors, while we all work together to protect Angus’s vital services from further funding reductions.

“The new council’s priority must be to help all citizens but especially those in the greatest need. Physical and mental well-being is something that Angus Council should consider expanding on and developing as part of our school curriculum, from early years through to secondary.

"March’s Council Budget created a new social worker post specifically to deal and support children and families dealing with the pressures of mental health. I believe this is an area that needs to be developed and I will be suggesting that the council determines this as a future top priority.”
