Carnoustie Theatre Club this week presented their production of feel good comedy ‘Calendar Girls’ to a run of sell-out crowds.
The personas of the Calendar Girls are quickly established in the opening scene, Annie, the gentle one (Susan Crabb), feisty go-getter Chris (Audrey Doherty), deadpan Cora (Joanna Fitzgerald) and the scene stealing Eve Swinley as downtrodden Ruth.
Celia and Jessie played by Carolyn Doran and Betty Gibson were very believable and gave good solid performances.
The greatest part of this show is the humour as the ladies’ individual stories gradually unfold. They were hilarious and the audience, myself included, were laughing from start to finish.
George Doherty gave a heartfelt performance as Annie’s husband John who dies from cancer and inspires the madcap scheme.
Producer David Cheape has to be congratulated for choosing the perfect cast and skilful direction ensuring the play flowed effortlessly.
Congratulations to all involved in the production and it is unfortunate that due to limited space we cannot name all the supporting cast and backstage essentials. As the run was a complete sell-out the club is putting on a one-off performance in Carnoustie High School theatre on Saturday, June 8, with all proceeds being donated to the Leukaemia Research Fund. Tickets are now on sale in The Fobel Shop, but hurry, already over 100 have been sold!
