The audience were clamouring for more last week as the LimeLight Company presented their latest offering, ‘Oliver!’.
The young LimeLight performers brought this stage classic to life and made it their own, often heart-warming and at times downright hilarious.
On Friday the part of Oliver was played by Brandon Boyd. He may have looked miniscule on stage but Brandon created a big sound and really appealed to the audience’s soft side.
Gregor Milne was most entertaining as the cheeky chappy the Artful Dodger, and Ryan Tait played the part of Bill Sykes with plenty of passion.
Elliot Glen as Mr Bumble and Sheryl Whyte as the Widow Corney complemented each other beautifully in their very amusing duets.
Mike Carlin was a hoot as the twitchy undertaker Mr Sowerberry and seamlessly switched to the serious Mr Brownlow.
Kirsty McDonald was a delight as the unfortunate Nancy, a great voice, nice accent and a good dash of presence.
Chris O’Mara showcased his comic side with his (not quite) master villain Fagin, and on several occasions he stole the scene.
Sadly we can’t name check every player, but there was not one dud note in any of the performances, large or small, and the ensemble were very deft on their feet and full-bodied and confident in their singing. Musical director Richard Allan and his pit band were on fine form as well.
A special mention must go to the stage crew. The spinning centre piece was an ingenious idea allowing for rapid scene changes and one or two comic moments of its own.
All of the production team, back stage crew and performers can be proud in the knowledge that all of the audience’s applause was thoroughly deserved and we look forward to their next show.
