Arbroath Choral Society are in last minute preparations for their Christmas concert which takes place next Sunday (December 8).

The concert, which is being held in St Andrew’s Church from 7.30 p.m., will feature guest choir, the Angus branch of the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

They come from all over Angus and will have two slots in the show under the guidance of their musical director Ian Young.

Ian’s love of music began in primary school where he was a keen member of the school choir.

He spent 20 years abroad where he found time to direct children’s and adult choirs as well as theatre groups.

Ian is a director of the Angus Area Choir and in 2007 he received an MBE for community.

Keeping to the theme of youth, Lucy Mineard will play ‘Andante’ by Haydn on her cornet while a group of brass players will entertain with a rendering of ‘Baggy Trousers’.

Since August, under the choral society baton of musical director Jane Miller and accompanist Alison Hart, the choir has been working hard to bring this year’s concert.

As usual it is a blend of traditional and contemporary Christmas music with a sprinkling of non- seasonal items.

Tickets priced £7 for adults and £3 for children are available from the door on the night, any choir member or by telephoning Rachel on 01241 874 228.
