AN ARBROATH church will play host to a new series of concerts this month.
The concerts will be held at St Mary the Virgin, and the centrepiece of the series will be the Bluthner grand piano, recently loaned by musician Joseph Fleetwood.
Joseph will perform the first concert on the piano at St Mary’s, on October 25, playing a concert that will feature Liszt’s gargantuan ‘Sonata in B minor’ as well as popular classical works by Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Chopin, Bach and Mozart.
Joseph is a former pupil of Timmergreens Primary and Arbroath High School, and had piano lessons from Kitty McLaughlan and Sheena Glover before joining the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, followed by postgraduate study at the Royal College of Music.
Now living in Norwich, this will be his first concert in Arbroath in over a year.
Future concerts in the St Mary’s series will no doubt feature other talented musicians from the locale and beyond, notably, pianist and former Arbroath Festival Blue Ribband winner John Cuthbert.
John currently lives in London where he has just completed a course called ‘Foyles Future Firsts’ which allowed him to work alongside the London Philharmonic Orchestra as their orchestral pianist.
He is also a graduate of the Royal College of Music where he specialised in solo piano and accompaniment.
The concert will begin at 7.30 p.m., tickets can bought at the door and are £8, £6 concession and free for under 16s.
