Monotype masterclass at Hospitalfield

AN ARBROATH cultural centre is returning to its roots next month with a new course.

Using the recently refitted press a three day course in monotype has been arranged for May 4 to 6 at the Kinpurnie Print Studio at Hospitalfield House.

The course will be led by artist and printmaker Eugen Jarych, an expert in the monoprint technique.

Participants will benefit from demonstrations and discussions of monoprint, including working in colour and monochrome to better understand the versatility on offer.

The artists will be able to work at their own pace, in a relaxed and creative environment on a topic of their choice.

Monotyping as an art form was first introduced in the 1640s by Italian artist Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione and was an important part of the Hospitalfield programme in the 19th Century.

The Kinpurnie Print Studio was officially opened in February 2011 by the late Sir James Cayzar, patron of Hospitalfield House.
