WITH the unseasonal weather, Forfar and District Hillwalking Club took the decision to change Sunday’s walk from Beinn a’ Ghlo to Meall Chuaich. The latter is a much shorter walk which the club would normally undertake on shorter winter days. This really says it all about the recent weather.
The walkers followed the track alongside the aqueduct which runs eastwards into the hills from the A9 road near Dalwhinnie. It was not long before waterproofs were needed, the group soon disappearing into the cloud as height was gained.
The summit was reached in about two-and-a-half hours, with the weather relenting somewhat to allow a leisurely lunch break before the descent. A bit of navigation work was needed on the first few hundred metres until a break in the cloud revealed the way down. The walkers were back at their cars before three o’ clock, an unusually early finish for the club for this time of year.
The next walk is this Sunday to Monamenach in Glen Isla. Details can be found on the website or by contacting a committee member.
