A large crowd gathered on Monday evening at the home of Arbroath Football Club to watch Timmergreens lift the trophy at the historic annual Arbroath inter-schools competition.

Players and spectators prepared for the final battle for the Watters Cup between Hayshead and Timmergreens Primary schools at Gayfield.

The seven-a-side match lasted 20 minutes each way.

Both teams included some much needed girl power - Zoe Rennie for Timmergreens and Lucy Corbitt for Hayshead Primary. Both girls and their team mates showed great skills during the game.

Highly competitive play was witnessed from two well-matched teams facing each other. By the end of the first half Timmergreens began to dominate pushing to the final whistle with eight goals under their belt to Hayshead’s one.

The goal scorer for Hayshead School was Mitchell Findlay while Conner McFarlane (4 goals), Bryce Duff (2 goals), Jack Bledowski (2 goals) took the points for Timmergreens.

The referee in charge of the night’s sporting events was Gus Adams.

The entry fees, £4 for adults and £2 for juniors, were collected and all the proceeds will go to the Arbroath Primary Schools Sports Association and will be used by the association to purchase sporting equipment. The cup was first contested in 1912 and sees the primary schools in Arbroath take on each other in the competition, with the final being played at Gayfield Park.
