FORBES OF KINGENNIE

Despite high winds and rain there have been some very favourable catches returned this week. Water clarity has suffered but plenty of fish have been moving and a number of options have proved successful.

The Boathouse Pool has fished well despite being discoloured and having the surface covered with fallen leaves. Colin Macintyre rang the changes to catch/release 17 fish on Sunday, taken on a real assortment of flies. Chris Watson also returned six with the best rainbow estimated at 9lbs and Bill Bartlett returned a nice blue trout estimated at 5.50lbs.

Friday and Saturday provided exceptional sport on the Burnside Pool with twenty three anglers taking 15 fish and returning a grand total of 127 fish. Buzzers, damsels, Yellow Dancer and various hopper versions were all successful. The best falling to Mr Whiteford with a rainbow estimated at around 8lb caught on a diawl bach.

Nick Soave fished the Bankside Pool on Saturday and had five takes in his first five casts – unfortunately all five managed to escape! However, Nick did go on to take three fish for 6.50lbs. Ian Gordon and Richard Marshall enjoyed brisk morning sport returning 24 fish between them. Buzzers and small lures are producing the best results.

The Woodside Pool has again showed that trout really do prefer Powerbait to all other options. Spinning has started to produce results, with some of the better fish falling to this method, especially as we enter Autumn.

Cooler days are on the way but you can be sure of a warm greeting at Kingennie.

Last weekend Leanne Furye travelled to Coatbridge to compete in the Ladies National Singles Playdowns. She had a bye in her first game on Saturday. On Sunday she had wins over the players from Cumbernauld and Ardrossan to reach the last four of this competition. This means she has qualified for the semi-finals in both the singles and two bowl pairs in February.

The gents were hosts to Dundee on Saturday in their second League match. Arbroath were quickly into their stride and had a lead of 11 shots after five ends played.

Over the next five ends Dundee rallied and reduced this to a four-shot lead. In the next five ends the home side stepped up a gear and began to force ahead leading by 16 shots. This lead was maintained over the latter stages of the game and won comfortably by 19 shots.
