Arbroath United v SMRH

UNITED were sent into bat in their Scottish Cup tie at Lochlands on Saturday and were in early difficulties as three wickets fell in the opening four overs, reaching 18 with Ali Khan claiming two.

Fraser Burnett and Calvin Burnett took the total to 43 in the 12th over before Fraser was bowled by Robin Crouch. A further dismissal quickly followed as United reached 51 for 5 in the 15th over.

Calvin Burnett was joined by Greig Peal and they gradually rescued the innings as they reached 101 at the halfway stage and they went on to 157 in the 35th over before Burnett (71 from 95 balls, 10 fours) was caught by Brayden Tracey from Steven Parker’s bowling.

Peal (67 from 87 balls, 6 fours) was joined by Ben McGill (21 from 30 balls) and they added 48 before McGill was caught by Mark Burgess from William Angus’s bowling. Tracey (3 for 11) was introduced into the bowling attack and claimed three wickets including Peal as United were dismissed for 235 in the 49th over.

In response, SMRH struggled against the United attack and only opening batsman Vishal Shah (30 from 37 balls, 4 fours) reached double figures before being fourth out with the total on 36 in the 14th over, caught by Gordon Reisima from Calvin Burnett’s bowling. Euan Small (2 for 5) had two early wickets, while both Greig Peal (3 for 5) and Harsha Vithana (3 for 11) claimed three wickets as the visitors were dismissed for 67 in the 32nd over.

United won by 168 runs, and with the other section game cancelled due to ground conditions, they took outright second place in the section with two games remaining. The match was sponsored by Audrey and friends.
