Arbroath Academy (2) 0, NCR (2) 8
ARBROATH Academy Badminton Club gents’ second team completed their matches for the season when they faced NCR (2) on Sunday evening at the Saltire Leisure Centre. The team was identical to the side that was beaten last time out by NCR (2) and a tough match was expected.
First on court were TzeBonn Chan and Steve Duncan who were unlucky in the first set against Nair and Skelly before being well beaten in the second. Burnett and Lingard started slowly before making some inroads in the second set but it was another loss. After the first round of games NCR (2) led 2-0.
The visitors doubled their lead in the second round with two straight wins and held a 4-0 lead at the halfway stage.
It was obvious that despite the results Jon Burnett was having his strongest outing for the Academy. In the third round he teamed up with Steve Duncan and they were very unlucky to lose 19-21, 20-22. Chan and Lingard lost their game as well and the whitewash was now on with NCR (2) holding a 6-0 lead.
In the final round the young pairing of Burnett and Chan were outmanoeuvred by the veteran NCR (2) pairing. In the final game of the night the Academy had their strongest pairing of Duncan and Lingard out but they were edged out in yet another close game 18-21, 20-22 and could not prevent the whitewash.
