All players should note that it is a 7.30 p.m. sign in time.

Each venue will be drawn on the night. The first two entries will be drawn out with subsequent names drawn out after each frame has been completed.

If your opponent ‘breaks and dishes’ you have the opportunity to do it back. Should you break dry you are out! Should you repeat the feat it goes to a nine-ball re-rack, with no break and dish return opportunity.

The winner at each venue will receive £20, to be paid out by the controller.

As a final reminder, this is a fund-raising event for the league and the aim is to have a fun night.

Singles preliminary and

last 128 ties

As the league is struggling for 16 venues that meet the established criteria for hosting the last 128 singles (also due to recent closures), the typical format has had to be re-jigged.

Next Wednesday (December 15) will see the following preliminary matches played (four venues):

Bowlers - Sam McWalter, Steve Hamilton*, Jim Falconer, Colin Brown, Gordon Dickson, Gary Duff.

Station - Alan Scott, Roy Middleton*, John Maud, Scott Miller, Sandy McAllan, Gavin Smith.

Ram’s Heid - Karl Capewell, Jim Ewens, Gordon Taylor, Seonaid Wishart, Steve Ross, Kyle McAllan, Walter Preston*, Greg Alexander.

Burns Bar - George Fairweather, Lindsay Palser, Gareth Ruxton, Tam Comrie, Bobby Bell, Marc Smith, Richard Paterson, Steve Webster*.

All players will only play one match on the night as drawn by the controller (*). Venues with six players will provide three qualifiers and venues with eight players will provide four qualifiers for the last 128.

On the same night the last 128 will be played at the following three venues:

Legion - John Fotheringham, Dale Leith, Mark Crozier, Scott Strachan*, Alan Reid, Bob Whitelaw, Jim Elliot, Arthur Ramsay.

Portcullis - Gordon Smith*, Garry Mitchell, Tam Walkinshaw, Craig Fairweather, James Cowie, Martin Cherry, Duncan Low, Jonathan Cargill.

Abbey - Davy Jack, Brian Meikle, Richard Crowdar, Neil Hill, Davie Williams, Alex Cargill,Sean Barker, Tam Shepherd*.

With eight players at each venue, they will provide four qualifiers each. The four winners from each venue will actually qualify for the last 64 proper.

* - denotes controller at each venue who must perform the draw and ‘phone in the qualifiers to the match secretary as soon as possible.

All matches, whether preliminary or last 128, are best of five frames, race to 3. Players will lag the first frame only and then alternative breaks.

The important thing to note is that all players listed in this section are in action next Wednesday (December 15).

Sign-in time is the usual 8 p.m.

It goes without saying that if your name is listed in the 142 entries and does not appear in these draws then you have received a bye into the last 128.

SPA Scottish Senior Singles

This event is due to be played this weekend but may fall victim to bad weather. A decision or draw has not been made at the time of going to press. However, if the event goes ahead as planned there are three Arbroath guys going through so best of luck to them. They are Roy Middleton, Steve Hamilton and John Maud, all of whom play in the Ram’s Heid.
