Summer Pool League will run again

ARBROATH Summer Pool League is to be run for a second year.

The basic concept will remain the same, with groups and a handicap system. However, races and or qualification to finals day may have to be altered, depending on the numbers involved.

As a reminder, this is not an ‘open’ event, and players must have been registered with the Arbroath & District Pool League within the past three seasons.

As a guide, last year, the entry fee was £20 per player and this is the maximum it would be to enter again this year. The sale of a football card was mandatory last year and this may be reviewed but again this will be confirmed before entry fees are taken.

Any players interested should contact Michael Bastow and/or Graham Dunbar.

Race Night

This year’s Arbroath and District Pool League Race Night fund-raiser will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Arbroath branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland’s Green Street Hall.

It is hoped that as many people as possible from the pool playing community will come along to this event and an open invitation is extended to all players, their partners and friends.

Arbroath Open

The annual Arbroath Open competition will be held at Seaton House, Seaton Estate, Arbroath on Saturday, May 19.  The sign in will be at 11 a.m. for all those drawn out in the first 16 matches. For every other player it will be 12 noon.

The deadline for all entries is Friday, May 11. This will allow all entries to be collated and the draw carried out at the committee meeting on Monday, May 14. This deadline stands for all players, including those form surrounding areas.

As always, the event will be held on high quality Supreme tables. Entry remains at £5 per player and matches are expected to begin, as a minimum, as best of five frames. All entry monies will be paid out on the day. Last year’s winner received £250.

Rules will be black ball, with players lagging the first frame with alternative breaks from then on. Players are to referee their own matches with a floating referee in place on the day. The tournament director reserves the right to introduce the one-minute rule at any time to prevent slow play.

Entry forms and flyers will be distributed around the pubs within the next few days.
