TWO OF Arbroath Amateur Boxing Club’s schoolboy boxers ‘warmed up’ for the club’s 50th anniversary boxing dinner tonight (Friday) by winning North District weight and age categories in Aberdeen on Saturday.
Nathan Shaw faced Mathew Stewart, Byron ABC, in a fast and skilful 36k bout. This well matched contest ebbed and flowed as one then the other tried to take control. Nathan Shaw just had the greater desire and commitment and in the final round did more than enough to win the contest and take the title.
Clubmate John Docherty met Lochaber’s James Aitchison in a shortlived and explosive contest, in the 46k category.
From the first bell Docherty took control dominating the early exchanges with fast south-paw jabs and crushing straight lefts. With Aitchison obviously out of his depth, the referee rightly stopped the contest awarding John Docherty an impressive victory and his second title of the season having already won the ABS Ltd novice age group title in November.
