ARBROATH St Thomas hosted the second Premier League gala of 2012 last Tuesday.
After some closely run races they were placed first, with Perth City second, Kinross third, Dundee City Aquatics in fourth place and Forfar fifth.
The following day young swimmers from Arbroath St Thomas swim club travelled to Dundee to take part in the DCA Mini Gala.
Blythe Brown (8), swimming in her first accredited meet, made the finals in the 8-9 years 50m back stroke, taking fourth place.
Both Cameron Craig and Ross Duncan, competing in the boys’ 8-9 years age group, made finals in the 50m backstroke where Cameron picked up the silver medal and Ross the bronze. Ross also came fourth in the 50m butterfly, while Cameron won another silver medal.
Robert Allan, swimming in the boys’ 10 years backstroke, took fourth place, closely pursued by team-mate George Cowan who was placed sixth. In the 50m freestyle George won a bronze medal, while Robert came fourth.
There were three St Thomas swimmers in the 10 year boys’ 50m butterfly - George winning a bronze medal, with Ben Morrison coming fourth and Robert Allan finishing fifth.
Sophie Smith, 10 year girls, won a gold medal in the 50m freestyle, silver in the 50m backstroke, bronze in the 50m butterfly and came fourth in the 50m breaststroke, picking up a runners-up trophy.
In the girls’ 11 years age group Ally Morrison was first in all of her events, broke the record in the 50m backstroke and won best girl trophy.
Ashley Thomson, also 11, won a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly and the 50m breaststroke. In the 50m backstroke it was a St Thomas one-two with Ashley finishing just behind Ally to take a silver medal.
The girls’ 11 and under relay team of Blythe Brown, Ashley Thomson, Ally Morrison and Sophie Smith swam a determined and hard fought race to pick up the silver medal.
Sarah Oliphant, Anita Lorkowska, Rachel Fotheringham, Jenna Geddes, Adam Ross, Bailey Ross, and Hannah Coull also competed in the 10 years age group setting a number of new personal best times.
Despite a small team entry the St Thomas was placed second behind Aberdeen Dolphins.
