ARBROATH’S Alan Soutar will travel to Antalya, Turkey, on Monday as part of the four-man Scotland team which will take part in the Europe Cup of Darts 2012.

‘Soots’ has been selected for the team after a great 2011 inter-county season in which he finished top of the averages in Scotland North.

The tournament is a week-long event which includes singles, doubles and team knock-out competitions. In the doubles, Alan will team up with the world number six and Scotland captain Ross Montgomery. The other two members of the squad who will pair up are Gary Stone and Craig Baxter. In the team event, Scotland’s group matches will see them play Finland, Italy and Slovenia.

Alan is not the first man from Arbroath to play in the Europe Cup for Scotland as Geordie Nicoll was a squad member in the 1978 competition. (The year Alan was born).

Alan said: “Geordie Nicoll is a legend in the Arbroath darts scene and still holds the record for most Arbroath singles titles won (eight), so to emulate what he has done in the past has always been a huge goal of mine, Mind you he played 25 times for Scotland so I have a long way to go still.”

This will be the eighth time Alan has pulled on the Scotland shirt over the past two years.
