At the weekend the England Institute of Sports Arena in Sheffield was the venue for the England Athletics Indoor Championships for Under 15-20 Age Groups.
These championships set the highest entry standards of the indoor track and field season and only the top performing athletes from across the UK are able to compete.
The event used to be called the 3As and is generally regarded as the British Championships.
Arbroath & District’s Under 15 Athlete Joel McFarlane headed to Sheffield having secured the entry standard in three events; long-jump, high-jump and 60m hurdles.
On Saturday he competed in the high-jump and although his jump of 1.70m was equal third in height, he lost out on the bronze medal on clearance count back.
First up on Sunday was long-jump where his jump of 5.98m was good enough to secure an excellent silver medal.
His third event of the weekend was the 60m hurdles, which came at the end of a very long day. Having come through some tough qualifying to reach the final, Joel finished in fifth place, in a time of 8.88s.
