Season to commence

The Arbroath and District Pool League season will commence on Tuesday (September 24).

Division One

Fixtures: Cliffburn 1 v Bowlers 1; Letham 1 v Abbey; Newgate 1 v Ram’s Heid 2; Portcullis 1 v Newgate 2; Railway 1 v Portcullis 2; Ram’s Heid 1 v Legion 1; Bye, Merchants.

Division Two

Fixtures: Bowlers 2 v Cliffburn 2; Burns Bar v Legion 2; Fishermans v West Port Bar 2; Portcullis 3 v Letham 2; Station v Stag; West Port Bar 1 v Railway 2.

UK Open Championships

The first UK Open Championships will be held at the Normandy Hotel, Renfrew. Three local players, David Jack, Greg Alexander and Graham Dunbar are travelling through to test their skills against regular internationals and professionals in this event.

IM No. 6

The draw for the Arbroath IM No. 6 qualifier is as follows:

Section one

Round one: match one - Greg Alexander beat Wayne Green, 6-2; match two - Gary McLeish beat Steve Hamilton, 6-2; match three - Roy Middleton beat Ricky Dewars, 6-3; match four - Jonathan Cargill beat Colin Smith, 6-4. Round two: match five - Greg Alexander v Gary McLeish; match six - Roy Middleton v Jonathan Cargill. Round three: match seven - winner match five v Winner match six. Qualifier: winner match seven.

Section two

Round one: match one - Garry Mitchell lost to Ian Anderson, 6-5; match two - Michael Bastow beat Scott MacEwan, 6-3; match three - Steve Reid lost to Steve Webster, 6-1; match four - Tam Walkingshaw gave walkover to Davie Williams. Round two: match five - Ian Anderson v Michael Bastow; match six - Steve Webster v Davie Williams. Round three: match seven - winner match five v winner match six. Qualifier: winner match seven.

Round one: match one - Paddy Nicoll, bye; match two - Andy Braid beat Jamie Robertson, 6-2; match three - Mark Donald lost to Martin Cherry, 6-3; match four - Jeff Barthorpe lost to Brian Craig, 6-1. Round two: match five - Paddy Nicoll v Andy Braid; match six - Martin Cherry v Brian Craig. Round three: match seven - winner match five v winner match six. Qualifier: winner match seven.

Section four

Round one: match one - Graham Dunbar, bye; match two - Kris Cameron beat John Maud, 6-5; match three - Gordon Smith v Richard Paterson; match four - Jim Dear lost to Alex Whyte, 6-4. Round two: match five - Graham Dunbar v Kris Cameron; match six - winner match three v Alex Whyte. Round three: match seven - winner match five v winner match six. Qualifier: winner match seven.

The IM No. 6 finals are to be held over the weekend of October 26/27 at a venue yet to be confirmed. The deadline will be Friday, October 4.

The deadlines are: matches one, two, three and four must have been played by Friday, September 13; matches five and six to be completed by Friday, September 27; match seven to be completed by Friday, October 4.

Matches are best of 11 frames, lag first frame only. Players are to arrange matches with at venue and time which suits both. Any problems arranging fixtures get in touch with the match secretary as soon as possible. Winners to text or ‘phone result to match secretary upon completion.
