EIGHTEEN anglers competed in Arbroath Angling Club’s opening competition of the season at Monikie’s Island Pond.
Conditions were not too bad for mid March, not being too cold with only a light wind to contend with.
A total of 45 fish were caught with a variety flies doing the business; viva, white cat and booby, while some anglers even took fish on buzzers.
The winner was George Gall with six trout for 13lbs 11oz, the largest being 3lbs 11oz.
Other results were: 2, Bruce McAskill, six for 12lbs; 3, Scott McGregor, six for 11lbs 14oz; 4, John Heenan, six for 11lbs 10z; 5, Ray Heenan, six for 11lbs 8oz; 6, Les Shepherd, six for 11lbs 2oz; 7, Scott Reith, three for 5lbs 12oz; 8, Dave Croll, two for 4lbs 8oz; 9, equal, Darren Heenan and Jim Moseley, both one each for 2lbs.
There has been a change of date for the next competition at the River Tay. This will now be fished on April 10. Members should meet at the Bus Station, Catherine Street, at 8 a.m. Travel is by own transport.
