Entries are now being taken for this year’s premium Arbroath and District Pool League events, the Kelbie Metals Singles and Doubles. The entry fee remains at £3 per player for the singles and £4 per pair in the doubles. Entry forms have been distributed to all captains, but are also available for download from the Arbroath Pool website.

The deadline for entries into both competitions is Tuesday, December 13, at 7 p.m. All entries must be handed into the Ram’s Heid on the appropriate forms for the attention of the match secretary or treasurer, or handed to them in person.

Portcullis Singles

In light of the unprecedented success and high entries for the Grassroots, the Portcullis Singles organiser, Steve Webster, has had to reconsider the timings and format for his forthcoming tournament.

He has secured a fifth table which will remain in the function suite for most of the day but use of it will have to stop around 6 p.m. as there is a function booked. He has also got agreement for an early start - 9 or 9.30 a.m. - if required.

He may have to begin the competition at best of three frames and review it at each round, with a view to returning to the normal best of five as soon as timings allow.

These proposals are entirely dependent on the number of entries and the final format will be posted on the Arbroath pool website (www.arbroath.scottishpool.com ) as soon as it is known, but at least players wanting to play are aware of the potential conditions in advance.

The revised deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 29, and only players who have paid by the deadline will go into the actual draw. The entry fee remains at £5 per player.

Results reminder

A number of results are still not being ‘phoned in by the home team on Tuesday night as required. The Tuesday night deadline is to ensure that the match secretary can submit results in time for Friday’s Arbroath Herald as well as provide prompt updates to the website. From today (Friday) any results not ‘phoned in by Tuesday night will result in an automatic one-point deduction for the home team. No more warnings will be given.
