Ram’s Heid (2) are pool champs

RAM’S Heid (2) ensured that they retained their Sidey Division One crown by defeating Fisherman’s (2) this week and taking an unassailable three-point lead going into the last game of the season.

The battle for the runner-up spot will go to the wire, though, with a winner takes all match between Portcullis (1) and Cliffburn (1). A draw would ensure Cliffburn (1) remain in the runners up spot.

At the bottom, and with results going against them this week, the fate of Legion (3) has been sealed and they have been relegated from the division. The remaining teams involved in the quagmire to stave off relegation are Ram’s Heid (1), Portcullis (2) and Portcullis (3).

Ram’s Heid (1) and Portcullis (3) know victories will keep them up regardless of results elsewhere. Portcullis (2) travel to Letham knowing a victory could still see them being relegated to Division 2! A nail-biting finale for the teams involved!

The Stag also recorded a championship winning performance against Cliffburn (2), ensuring they take the Division Two title with a game to spare and with it promotion to Sidey Division One next season.

The battle for the second promotion place is still being hotly contested with Station unable to secure promotion with only a draw against West Port Bar. St Tam’s maintained their late charge with a victory against Burns Bar (2). St Tam’s can now force a second place play-off with the Station if they win and Station are defeated in the final games next week.

Race Night

Arbroath and District Pool League committee has expressed thanks and appreciation to all who came and supported this year’s race night. Another fantastic evening was had by all.

The total raised was in excess of £1,100. This is a fantastic amount of money which will continue to support the development of pool within the ADPL.

Thanks also go to Theresa and Sarah (Ladbrokes girls) for giving up their own time and running the betting. Thanks to all of the publicans and individuals who donated bottles of spirits/wine for the winning horses/jockeys. Thanks to Scott Berrie and his bar staff at the Green Street Hall and also to Alex Carswell for kindly allowing the use of the television and DVD player. Without the help of all of these people it would not be possible to hold such a great night!

Arbroath Open

The annual Arbroath Open will once again be held at Seaton House, by Arbroath, on Saturday, May 19.  Sign in will be at 11 a.m. for all those drawn out in the first 16 matches. For every other player it will be 12 noon.

The deadline for all entries is Friday, May 11. This will allow all entries to be collated and the draw carried out at the committee meeting on Monday, May 14. This deadline stands for all players, including those from surrounding areas.

As always, the event will be held on high quality Supreme tables. Entry remains at £5 per player and matches are expected to begin, as a minimum, as best of five frames. All entry monies will be paid out on the day. As a guide, last year’s winner received £250.

Rules will be Blackball, with players lagging the first frame with alternative breaks from then on. Players are to referee their own matches with a floating referee in place on the day. The tournament director reserves the right to introduce the one-minute rule at any time to prevent slow play.

Entry forms and flyers have been distributed around the pubs.
