Grassroots Competition

This year’s ADPL Grassroots competition will be played tomorrow (Saturday) at the Cliffburn Hotel. Players are reminded the sign in time is 11 a.m.

Rules will be usual SPA blackball rules and due to the high number of entries matches will be best of three for the first round, and, if time permits, the races will be increased as the competition progresses.

Individual Membership (IM)

The SPA meeting scheduled for last Sunday was cancelled due to the Scottish Singles and as a consequence the deadline for entries to the IMs has been extended to Saturday, December 3. Any interested players should contact Michael Bastow in the first instance for more information or visit the SPA website: www.scottishpool.com

Portcullis Singles

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, December 3. The deadline for entries is Friday, December 2, at 7 p.m. in the Portcullis. No entries will be taken on the day and the entry fee is £5 per player. Start time for first ties on Saturday will be 11 a.m. prompt. Four tables will be in use as usual.

Consideration will be given to players who genuinely work Saturday mornings and still wish to enter provided their initial absence does not hold up the draw in any way. Those players must however contact Steve Webster direct and in advance so that he knows (and not passed along through a third party).

Players who are not genuinely working and seeking to take advantage of this generosity for a lie-in etc., will be refunded their fee and removed from the draw.

The draw will provide a guide-only for timings. It is the player’s responsibility to be in attendance in good time before their name is called. Once your name is called however, and you are not in attendance, you will be docked one frame per minute until you either appear or are knocked out by default.

Prize money will be dependent on total entries but as a guide has previously been £150 to the winner. A trophy will be awarded to the winner. Best of five frames to start with, but races will be increased if timings allow. A cash prize 14-1 competition will also be organised. Graham Dunbar will be defending the title he won last year and a head-hunter prize will be awarded to any person that knocks him out.

This competition is restricted to ADPL registered players only. For more information contact Steve Webster on 07585-441095.

Friday Flyer

There will be a flyer held at the Cliffburn Hotel tonight (Friday), with an entry fee of £5 per player. Deadline for entries is 7.15 p.m. and the draw will be carried out immediately thereafter with a view of starting at 7.30 p.m. prompt.

It is hoped that matches will be a best of five from the start but, depending on entries, this may be reduced to best of three for the first round.
