AT THE top of the First Division of Arbroath and District Pool league Portcullis (1) gained both points from the match against Letham (1) on Tuesday and are two points clear of Cliffburn (1) whose match against Ram’s Heid (2) was postponed.

Ram’s Heid (2) are the closest challengers a further three points behind.

In Division Two, Bowlers beat Railway (2) at home to maintain a three-point margin over West Port Bar (2) who narrowly defeated Cliffburn (2) at home.

St Tam’s, Fishermans, Portcullis (3) and Legion (3) make up the chasing pack with only three points separating the four teams.

Charity four-man event

The finals of Arbroath and District Pool League’s charity four-man team competition will be held on Sunday at the Ram’s Heid. Sign-in time is 11 a.m.

The format for the day will be two groups of four with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals. The following teams have qualified - Portcullis 1A, Newgate, Cliffburn 1A, Legion 3B, Legion 1B, Railway 1A, Legion 1A and Cliffburn 2A.

The Willie McCartney finals are to be held over the weekend of May 25/26 at Cue Here, Airdrie.

As May is a busy month preparing for finals day, the following deadline dates for this event have been selected: preliminary match one must be played by Sunday, March 31; matches one and two must be played by Sunday, April 14; match three must be played by Sunday, April 28.

Matches are best of 11 frames, lag first frame only. Players to arrange matches with each other at venue and time which suits both players.
