Pool League Royal Rumbles raised over £200

ARBROATH and District Pool League’s fund-raising Royal Rumbles were played at six venues on Tuesday night.

The competitions were won by the following players who each took home £20: Ram’s Heid – Chris Smith, Legion (1); Abbey – Steve Webster, Portcullis (1); Portcullis – Dale Leith, Portcullis (1); Burns Bar – Scott Strachan, Abbey (1); Newgate – Graham Dunbar, Ram’s Heid (2); Legion – James Rennie, Ship Inn.

The fund-raising night drew in a total of £217 for league funds. Thanks to all the players, publicans and sponsors for their support and particularly to Graham Dunbar and Bash for organising the event.

Outstanding Knock-out Cup games scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, are as follows: Letham Hotel (1) v Ship Inn; Railway Inn (1) v Legion (1) Stag v Railway Inn (2).

The normal start time of 8 p.m. will apply. The format is nine singles and four doubles and results are to be ‘phoned or texted to the pool mobile.

Scottish Super 11s

Arbroath and District Pool League has entered three 12-man teams in the Scottish Pool Association Super 11s A and B events next year. The A event has two teams allocated and will be played on the weekend of March 18, 19 and 20 at Ayr.

The B Event has a single team allocated and will be played on the weekend of February 25, 26 and 27 at Pettycur Bay.

The committee is confident there is a wide enough player base to fill the three teams. However, if there is sufficient interest there is a real possibility that a fourth team could be entered which would go to the B event in February at Pettycur Bay. The reason is that the B Event is not yet full and spaces are available.

The league is required to pay all the players’ caravan fees (£36 per player) at the Scottish Pool Association meeting on January 9. It is, therefore, essential that those players who are available for selection and interested in representing Arbroath make themselves known to the committee so that the teams can be selected.

Steven Webster stressed: “We are only interested in definites and fully committed players who will make the dates above.”

As well as players who have played in these events before, the committee is looking to keep developing pool in the town and would be interested to hear from players who have not played or put their names forward before. Interest would be welcomed, as would nominations from team captains on behalf of their players.

There is a dedicated thread on the website at www.arbroath.scottishpool.net where players can register their interest direct. Alternatively interested players should contact any one of the selection committee which comprises Gordon Smith, Steve Webster and Roy Middleton, whose numbers are posted on the fixture list.

The leagues are now in abeyance for the Christmas break and will not resume until Tuesday, January 11.
