Petrofac successes for local athletes

Arbroath and District Athlettics Club achieved major successes in the finals of the Petrofac Athletics League at Aberdeen at the weekend.

The top eight teams over the season qualified to compete in the finals with Arbroath and District Athletics Club being one of only three clubs which had teams in each age group.

The club recorded top three finishes in the Under-10 boys’, Under-12 girls’, Under-14 boys’, Under-18 women’s and men’s and the senior men’s competitions.

Senior men Michael Downie, David Murray, Ross White, Callum Edwards, Damien Murray, Lewis Morrison and Michael Taylor were crowned champions of their age group following a close and intense battle with Inverness Harriers. This is the second year in succession that this team has come out on top.

There were many excellent performances throughout the day the most notable coming from Michael Downie in the high-jump. He increased his personal best by seven centimetres, winning the senior high-jump and setting a new club record in the process.
