AFTER many weeks of preparing the courts for the season ahead Arbroath Tennis Club held an open day to encourage new players to the game and welcome back the regulars.
Children and adults alike were invited to ‘have a go’ at tennis. More than 60 people turned up on the day and for more than two hours they were actively engaged on the courts having a wonderful time.
Newly employed coach Rhiann Livingstone put the younger children through their paces whilst some others competed in some fun games and tried their luck at the fastest serve competition.
The fastest serve was recorded at 97mph by Kevin Small, whilst the quickest serve from the juniors came from Scott Fleming with his 70mph effort. There was also face painting being carried out throughout the afternoon within the clubhouse which was a hit with the children.
The club has a good social scene as well as the competitive playing opportunities for those who wish to play at a more advanced level - gents, ladies and juniors. For those of you who are not so competitive and would just like to participate socially to keep you active and meet new friends then the club would love it if you came along to make use of the facilities where you will be made very welcome.
A spokesman said: “We encourage families to also join the club where you can take advantage of our dedicated family night on a Friday throughout the season.
“There are membership forms available within the clubhouse for anyone who would like to join the club and we would encourage anyone to join of any age or playing ability (discounted rate if you join before the end of April). There will be various coaching programmes for all ages available throughout the summer for anyone who wishes to attend.
