No change at the top of Arbroath and District Pool Leagues

RAM’S HEID (2) have continued on their winning way after the Christmas and New Year break and a narrow victory over Ram’s Heid (1) on Tuesday maintained their two-point lead at the top of Division One of Arbroath and District Pool League.

The chasing teams, Abbey (1), Burns Bar (1) and Portcullis (1) recorded victories against Pageant, Portcullis (2) and Newgate respectively to maintain pressure.

In Division Two, Ship Inn and Legion (1) seem to be welded together at the top. On Tuesday, Ship recorded a narrow victory over Legion (2) and Legion (1) won at home against Railway Inn (2).

Nearest challengers Portcullis (3) drew with Burns Bar (2) while Station beat Fishermans at home.

Tayside Singles

The first major singles event of the season, the Tayside Singles, will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Old Mill Snooker Club in Brown Street, Dundee, DD1 5EF (behind the mill building that is opposite Bell Street Police Station).

Entry Fee is only £5 (pay on the day) and it is hoped Arbroath can support this by taking a large contingent. The venue is not too far from the train station if players wish to make a day of it. Sign in time is 11 a.m.

Strachan’s Supremoes Singles

The Strachan’s Supremos Singles has been added to the calendar and will take place on Sunday, February 6, at the Portcullis. This is the day after the Wattyscues Masters invitational event and is open to all other players who are not involved in the Masters.

The final format is four groups of four players with the top two in each group going on to the quarter-final knockout stages.

Entry fee will either be £10 or £20 per player depending on the format and is being sponsored by Scott Strachan.

The intention is to provide a tournament for those players considered just below the town’s top players who are not invited to Watty’s Masters but are too experienced for the Grassroots Singles. Again there is a dedicated thread for this event on the website and players can register their interest on it. Scott will be selecting his final 16 soon so any players who would like to be involved should note their interest as soon as possible.

SPA Super 11s

Arbroath and District Pool League has entered a fourth team in the Scottish Pool Association Super 11s event.

The selection committee of Steve Webster, Gordon Smith and Roy Middleton is meeting tonight (Friday) to begin the process of picking the A and B teams to begin with. Players have until then to register their interest.

There is a dedicated thread on this subject on the website at www.arbroath.scottishpool.net and so far there are 59 interested players.
