Newgate ready for season

The 2014 outdoor bowling season starts at the Newgate with the gents’ opening day fixture on Saturday, April 12, with the president Eric Martin v vice-president Ron Webster challenge match.

Members of the gents’ section are asked to report to the clubrooms by 2 for a 2.30.p.m start.

The ladies’ section starts on Sunday, April 13, with their president Pat Smith v vice-president Audrey Johnston in their annual challenge match. Members are asked to report to clubrooms by 1.30 for a 2 p.m start .

Gents’ section – president, Eric Martin; vice-president, Ron Webster; junior vice-president, Alex Stott; immediate past president, John Stirling; secretary, Dave Hodgens; treasurer, Gibby Lawson; bar convener, Ray Anderson; match secretary, Alan Caird; curator, Tom Pullar. Management committee - Alex Napier, Sye Pearson, Alan Low and Ian Teviotdale. Selection committee - Ken Swan, Harry Burnett and Jim Spence.

Ladies’ section – president, Pat Smith; vice-president, Audrey Johnston; immediate past president, Linda Cargill; secretary, Audrey Johnston; treasurer, Barbara Park; match secretary, Irene Hill. Management committee - Ruth Ferguson, Isabel Anderson, Ann Cargill and May Hutcheson. Club stewardess - Helen Napier; greenkeeper - Kevin Stott.

The ladies’ section will be holding a coffee morning with raffles, tombola, wheel of fortune, cake and candy and other stalls at 10.a.m on Saturday, April 5. Members should note all competition entries and fees should be paid by March 31.
