Mixed start as Cadette girls open their season

Have your say

BOTH MUSKEETER Cadette Women teams were in action at the weekend with mixed results for the girls.

In the first game, a Sunday morning trip down to Stevenson College, Edinburgh awaited the girls for their first game of the season.

The first of two games was against Pentland Stars, who only started the game with four players.

However, the Muskie’s tough defence led to fast break baskets which were easy to convert, finishing the quarter 20-2 up.

The Muskie girls continued to work hard but showed respect to their opponents with the final score finishing 60-7 to the home side.

Scorers: Sarah Hush and Leah Bow 12, Berfin Dogru and Holly Kane 8.

Tayside Musketeers Cadette Woman 35, Highland Bears 39

The second game proved a tighter affair and in the first quarter, key player Heather Innes went into foul trouble forcing her to the bench.

The girls continued to play strong and finished down by three at 8-11.

Things evened up in the second quarter, with Christy Guthrie proving effective, cutting well and finishing at the basket.

This showed in the score, with a tie at 19-19 going into the half. Again both teams matched up well in the third quarter, Sarah Hush driving well to the basket and rebounding.

The pace of the game was quick with a number of fast breaks at both ends, leading to a tie at 19-19 going into the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, in the fourth the Highland squad took their chances, scoring some pivotal baskets on the fast break.

The Musketeers were unable to respond and Highland took the game 35-39.

This was a good start to the season for the squad, showing some flashes of brilliance which will hopefully build into a great season.

Scorers: Christy Guthrie, 22, Sarah Hush 8, Berfin Dogru 5.
