Junior First Team

On Saturday, the junior first team travelled to Crieff for their latest Super League match. Neither side had won a match this season so something had to give this week!

Arbroath were without regulars Scott Fleming and Benjamin Braid. The team comprised Ben O’Mara, Drew Moir, Calvin Wood and Josh Crabb. Once again, as has happened in most matches this season, the young Arbroath side were overpowered by much older opposition.

The boys faired a little better in the singles than in previous weeks, with Josh Crabb winning his match on a championship tiebreak and the others each winning a fair number of games. In the doubles , though, they did not do quite so well.

This now all but confirms relegation from the Super League to Division One, but the boys will be all the better for the experience of this season

Results, Arbroath names first:

Singles - Ben O’Mara lost to Charlie Grimson 6-3, 6-1; Drew Moir lost to Andrew Campbell 6-0, 6-2; Calvin Wood lost to Duncan Lambie 6-4, 6-1; Josh Crabb beat Johny Carswell 6-2, 0-6 (10-5).

Doubles - O’Mara/Moir lost to Grimson/Campbell 6-0, 6-0; Wood/Crabb lost to Lambie/Carswell 6-1, 6-1.

Result: Crieff 10, 1st Arbroath 2.
