Club edged out in cup final

Lads’ Club 1, Domino United 2

LADS’ Club under-19s travelled to North End Park, Dundee, to meet Domino United in the final of the J. Cord Cup.

With a full squad available for what was to be the Lads last match together under the management team of Milne and Smith, hopes were high that they would be able to return to Arbroath with the cup.

In conditions more akin to the sweltering heat of Rio, both teams served up an entertaining first half with the wood work coming to the rescue of both teams whilst Matty Barr, who had been out injured for the best part of four weeks, showed why he ranks as one of the best ‘keepers in the League with a stunning save midway through the first half.

Half-time: Under-19s 0, Domino United 0.

The second half was barely 10 minutes old when captain Scott Cumming indicated to the bench that he had run his game and was replaced by Liam Smith.

Within five minutes of making the enforced change Smith set up Kyle Brown who fired home from the edge of the 18-yard box to give Club the lead.

A few minutes later Brown again found his range but fired just wide of the post.

Domino began to assert themselves in attack and equalised on the 20 minute mark.

Matty Barr continued to excel in the Lads’ Club goal with two more outstanding saves.

By now the Lads were finding it difficult to hold Domino who took the lead for the first time in the match with 15 minutes to go.

With time running out, the Lads threw caution to the wind and put the Domino defence under pressure, but were unable to grab an equaliser that would have taken the game into extra-time.

Squad: M. Barr, D. Cargill, S. Cumming, J. Gordon, J. Allen, C. Milne, C. Will, G. Laird, M. McLachlan, F. Stewart, K. Brown, S. Hamilton, R. Tait, L. Smith, S. Scott and M. Scott.

Dave Milne and Alex Smith extend a big thank you to the Lads who have entertained them over the past few years and wish them all the best for the future.

l The club is looking for players born in 1997 to join the squad for the coming season. Anyone interested please call Murray Clark on 07951 525228.
