v Largo Sunday XI

ARBROATH United’s youngsters, with a sprinkling of senior players, entertained Largo in a 40-over friendly at Lochlands on Sunday.

Bowlers had the upper hand and partnerships of 25 between Harris Carnegie (16 from 31 balls) and Scott Fleming (14 from 53 balls) for the second wicket and 21 between Murray Robb (25 from 56 balls) and Joe Parker for the sixth wicket were highlights of the United innings, while Jon Burnett (14 from 15 balls) also reached double figures.

United were dismissed in the 39th over for 111 with Adrian Brown (3 for 18) claiming three wickets while Singh, Dodds and Caddick all claimed two wickets.

In reply, Largo made a solid start through Gillen (12 from 33 balls) and Bentley (17 from 28 balls) in reaching 32 before Jon Burnett (2 for 8) claimed two wickets in the ninth over. Scott Fleming and Austin McGill both claimed two wickets as the visitors reached 90 for 6 in the 26th over. However, Adrian Caddick (unbeaten 30 from 32 balls, 7 fours) took the game away from United as Largo won by four wickets with 8.5 overs remaining

Both Saturday matches last week against Prestwick in the Scottish Cup and Huntly in the Clubsport Strathmore & Perthshire Premier Division fell victim to the weather.

Arbroath United

The final game in the group stage of the Scottish Cup takes place at Titwood tomorrow (Saturday). The team finishing first in the section qualifies for the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, while the team in second qualifies for the quarter final of the CS Trophy.

Clydesdale, who defeated United at Lochlands, have qualified for one of the competitions but the final round of fixtures will determine which competition they are in. United, currently two points behind, require to win in Glasgow and improve their run rate sufficiently to qualify for the Scottish Cup, while Prestwick who are playing SMRH could pip United for the CS Trophy place if United lose.

Meigle v Arbroath United

Neither team has played due to the inclement weather since the two teams met at Lochlands on June 23, a game which was won by United. After two weeks of postponed matches, both teams will be hoping to get back into action in the Clubsport Strathmore & Perthshire Premier Division at Victory Park tomorrow.

The third team look to return to Clubsport Strathmore & Perthshire Second Division action on Sunday when they make the short journey to Brechin. The earlier scheduled game at Lochlands fell victim to the weather.
