THE TENNIS Tayside League matches got under way on Saturday – with the two Arbroath junior teams in action. The first team were away at Blairgowrie in a Super League match while the second team played host to 2nd St Andrews in the First Division.
The Tennis Tayside junior league is for those aged 16 and under and Arbroath fielded several players aged 12 and under.
The first team lost a very closely fought match 7-5, whilst the second team went down 9-3. This will be a very hard season for the two very young sides but they have already shown that they can equip themselves very well.
Special mention needs to be made of Logan Lawrence and Lewis Greig who were making their debuts for the junior team.
1st Team results, (Arbroath names first):
Singles - Ben O’Mara lost to Lewis Hall 6-0, 6-0; Drew Moir beat Lewis Avolio 6-2, 6-2; Benjamin Braid lost to Findlay Walker 3-6, 6-1, 10-8; Scott Fleming beat Fergus Walker 6-2, 6-1.
Doubles - O’Mara/Moir lost to Hall/Avolio 6-2, 6-3; Braid/Fleming drew with Walker/Walker 5-7, 6-3.
2nd Team, (Arbroath names first):
Singles - Calvin Wood lost to Angus McCrimmon 6-3, 6-3; Josh Crabb beat Calum MacLeod 6-3, 6-2; Logan Lawrence lost to Ben Hunter 6-1, 6-1; Lewis Greig lost to Alexander Samuel 6-2, 6-0.
Doubles - Wood/Crabb drew with McCrimmon/Macleod 3-6, 6-4; Lawrence/Greig lost to Hunter/Samuel 6-0, 6-1.
