Young Arbroath Tennis Professional Jonny O’Mara took his third International Doubles title of 2014 in Croatia at the weekend.
Three ITF (International Tennis Federation) tournaments are held back to back as part of the Futures circuit enabling more than 600 professional players from 44 countries to battle it out for those all-important world ranking points.
Jonny, with his Australian partner Chris O’Connell, playing together for only their second tournament, beat the number one seeds from the Czech Republic in the first round followed by tough matches in both the quarters and semis before a large partisan crowd supporting Croatian players.
This title will take Jonny to a doubles career-high of around 500 in the world rankings.
He said: “I’m really enjoying playing doubles, and due to schedule and financial restraints at this level quite often you only decide who to play with when you see who has made the tournament,.
“This is often quite an exciting challenge to see how you match up, and fortunately me and Chris played some good tennis against strong opposition this week.”
Jonny will stay in Croatia for the final leg of the circuit this week and we wish him well.
