ARBROATH tennis sensation Jonny O’Mara won the boys’ singles title at the Danish Junior Cup competition at Aarhus, Denmark, last weekend.
In the final O’Mara, the 12th seed, beat Jordi Massalle Ferrer courtesy of a walkover over the Spanish wildcard who knocked out Briton Scott Clayton 6-2, 6-4 in the other semi-final.
O’Mara also won the doubles event in an all British final between O’Mara and Nihar Navapurkar and Scott Clayton and Luke Johnson with the former pair winning 6-3, 6-4.
And to add to his successes, he won the International Tennis Federation event in Edinburgh last week.
Jonny told the Herald: “I only left school last month with the intention of giving full-time tennis a real go so to have won two double and two singles titles in my first three international events since going full time is better than I could have hoped for.”
Jonny now has three more International Tennis Federation events to play, one in Newcastle and two in Europe before he can take a break, but as he said: “That’s the life of a tennis player!”
