Gymnastic fantastic!

Arbroath Gymnastic Club Display Team took part in the largest Scottish Gymnastic Festival, 'GymFest' last weekend. Display gymnastics involves gymnastic floor skills and tumbles, acrobatic stunts and tricks as well as choreography to match the music. Each team performs on a sprung floor for eight minutes. Arbroath's routine again impressed the audience and on looking gymnasts from all over the country. All gymnasts received a medal for their performance. Anyone interested in becoming a gymnast should contact the lead coach, Kirsty Methven, on 01241 439394 or email kjmethven@gmail.com. The club offers places to all ages, all abilities and both boys and girls. The club teaches male and female gymnasts on all competing pieces of apparatus as well as display gymnastics.

The Dave Moodie pairs competition was held recently at Carlogie Dam. All the anglers had a good time with B. Thomson, Arbroath, and A. O’Rourke, Dundee, taking first place with 39 for 111lb 1oz; runners-up A. Stewart, Dundee, and S. Mcdonald, Newburgh, with 17 for 57lb; third spot C. Murray, Carnoustie, and J. Robb, Fife, with 19 for 54lb.

Other catches were D. Moodie and Colin Fairweather, Carnoustie, with 13 for 36lb; J. Cheetham and J. Welch, Forfar, with 6 for 16lb.

Finals night qualifiers

After a night of some fantastic darts the final two qualifiers for Finals Night were decided in the Air Memorial (180) Trophy.

In two closely contested semi-finals Clive Jones beat Angus Cossans 4-2 and in the other semi final, holder Alan Soutar survived a comeback from Andy McEwan. After leading 3-0, he sealed victory in the decisive leg with a 12 darter, leaving Alan and Clive to face off on Finals Night.

The first event that will be held at this year’s Finals Night shall be the singles, as this will be the event with the most participants on the evening. It is the intention to have doors open at 6 for a 6.30 p.m. start and all those who are qualified to play on the evening should sign in prior to 6.30 p.m.

Summer League

The registration for this year’s Arbroath Summer Darts League shall take place in the Portcullis on Monday (June 2) between 8 and 10 p.m.
