RICHARD Paterson, Paddy Nicoll, Steve Hamilton, and Graham Dunbar all have unblemished records and rightfully sit top of their groups.

Richard and Paddy both recorded victories on Tuesday over their nearest competitors, Tam Walkinshaw and Greg Alexander respectively. Greg made up for his early loss by defeating Sandy Whyte in a re-arranged fixture and ensures the battle for top spot in Group B continues. Following Group C results on the night, five players are tied for third place.

Group D is a similar tight affair with three players tied for third spot. As the group stage reaches the business end the race for qualification to the Premier Event will gather pace and undoubtedly see a few shock results along the way.

SPA Super 15s

The Scottish Pool Association (SPA) has confirmed that this year’s Super 15s events format will remain unchanged and the ‘A’ event will be held at Haven, Craig Tara, Ayr, over the weekend of November 9, 10 and 11, with the ‘B’ event to be held at Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn, Fife, over the weekend of November 16, 17 and 18.

Any player who is interested playing in these events should either login to the forums at www.arbroath.scottishpool.com and express interest; or contact any committee member by text or ’phone. The interest list will close on Wednesday, August 1, to allow sufficient time for the selection committee to meet and determine the teams.

The aim is to release the team selections within seven days of the closing date for interest. Players selected will then have until Friday, August 31, to pay their £36 accommodation fee.

Charity 24-hour ‘Pool-a-thon’

The Arbroath and District Pool League (ADPL) 24-hour ‘Pool-a-thon’ returns for a second year and will again be held at the Portcullis, this year on August 18 and 19. Last year’s event proved to be a fantastic fund-raiser, helping raise cash which was divided between both the ADPL and MacMillan Nurses. Everyone involved had a brilliant time and it was agreed that it should continue as an annual event.

This year there will be 10 pool players keeping each other awake during the small hours. They are, in no particular order, Scott MacEwan, Graham Dunbar, Roy Middleton, Ryan MacKenzie, Kris Cameron, Steve Webster, Gordon Dickson, Scott Strachan, Euan Sharpe and Gareth Ruxton.
