THE FIRST games of the Scottish Schools’ Curling qualifier were played on the Tuesday before Christmas. Arbroath beat Forfar Academy (1) and Websters defeated Forfar Academy (2).
At the Forfar Slam on December 29 and 30, three Forfar Young Curlers (FYC) teams made it to the second day.
Craig Joiner’s team of Adam Flint, Euan MacDiarmid, and Ewan Maguire was beaten in the low road 3v4.
Thomas Halder’s team of Ben Bremner, Craig Cameron and Craig Paterson were second in the low road final,
Then team of Layla Al-Saffar, who was subbing for Gina Aitken, was beaten in the High Road 3v4 and in the High Road final Duncan Menzies’ team of Stuart Taylor, Robert Fawns, and Angus Dowell played Bruce Mouat. In the last end Bruce had to make a draw to win the slam and get to Germany. He played the shot very well and won the slam.
Also on the December 30 there was an under-13 bonspeil which featured two teams from Forfar, two from Kinross, one from Aberdeen and one from Perth.
Forfar’s team of Iain Wallace, Angus Redford, Ryan Barron, and Nicola Joiner came third, and Forfar’s other team of Allan Grant, Sean Davidson, Bruce Keillor, and Jodie Duff, came fourth.
The winning team was from Kinross.
FYC members Kerr Drummond and James Craik came second in the Graham Arnott, with Brian Binnie (skip) and Gordon Craik
