Final games at local clubs

THE OUTDOOR bowling season came to an end at Abbey Bowling Club on Saturday when the president’s select played the vice-president’s select. The match resulted in a 152-125 win for the vice president.

Winners of touchers throughout the game were Ali Cooper, Craig Paton, Bob Skea and Donald Matthew who also won the spider prior to the start. The day ended with a barbeque and dance which was enjoyed by all.

The club’s senior section held their closing day and presentation of trophies last Wednesday.

Winners were: singles - Sam Russell; runner-up - Jim Arthur: pairs - Les Barnett and Emma Philip; runners-up - Brian Cruickshank and Davina McGregor: triples - May Dundas, Alan French and Ian Croll; runners-up - Brian Cruickshank, Irene Eaton and Doug Thomson.

Newgate Club

NEWGATE gents closed their season on Saturday with the traditional president v vice-president match. President Willie Johnston’s team put up a great fight but the team led by vice-president John Stirling pulled out all the stops for a comfortable victory.

Carpet Bowls League

The Friday and Sunday carpet bowls league started last week. Members and guests are invited to come along and take part in these games which are played in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Presentation of prizes.

The annual dinner and dance and presentation of prizes will be held in the clubrooms on Saturday, November 3, with a 6 p.m. for 6.30.p.m. start. Tickets for members and guests are available at the bar.

Annual general meeting

The Newgate Gents’ annual general meeting will be held in the clubrooms on Wednesday, November 14, with a 7 p.m. start.
