Fascinating prospect for second half of season

AT THE halfway point in the Arbroath and District Pool League programme, the Sidey First Division couldn’t be tighter at the top.

Portcullis (1) are the only unbeaten team in the division, but through virtue of games won Ram’s Heid (2) top the table at the half way stage, both on 19 points.

Cliffburn (1) are a point further behind with Burns Bar (1) a further point behind them. After their spirited win against reigning champions, Ram’s Heid (2), Burns Bar (1) will feel they can also still pip the top three to the title.

Still in contention are Railway Inn (1) who are sitting in fifth place with 15 points.

At the bottom Legion (3) are languishing with two points with Portcullis (3) above them on four points, closely followed by Portcullis (2) on five points. With everything nicely poised players are already looking forward to an entertaining second half of the season.

Stag proudly sit top of Division Two on 20 points with a five-point cushion over nearest rivals Station and St Tam’s. Stag are also the only team to boast an impressive unbeaten league record in the division.

Bowlers, Fishermans (1), Burns Bar (2) and West Port Bar are all within three points of Station and St Tam’s and will all be battling it out with Stag out for the title and promotion places.

Railway Inn (2) are bottom but are only one point adrift of Legion (2) for the wooden spoon. At this stage it appears that Stag can only throw away the title. Again it is an entertaining second half of the season for the players to look forward to.

Division Two

Result: Letham (2) 5, St Tam’s 7.
