Excitement mounts in pool leagues

AS THE Arbroath and District Pool League season approaches its conclusion, there is still all to play for in both divisions.

In Sidey Division One the Burns Bar (1) has recorded victories over current champions Ram’s Heid (2) and Portcullis (1) in recent weeks, giving their own title push a well deserved revival. However, Ram’s Heid (2) still lead the way by two points from Portcullis (1) with Burns Bar (1) and Cliffburn (1) a further point behind.

At the bottom it’s a tight affair with only a single point separating the bottom three. Portcullis (2) recorded a much needed win this week and Portcullis (3) took a point from their game with Letham Hotel (1) to both hoist themselves above Legion (3) who now sit bottom of the division with six points.

In Division Two, Stag looked to be running away with the title just before Christmas, but in the first game back after the Christmas break they suffered their first defeat of the season to West Port Bar; giving the rest of the division a lift.

Stag lost again this week to title contenders Station but still lead the way by a two points, sitting top with 26 points. St Tam’s (24 points), Station (23 points) and Bowlers (21 points) will all still fancy their chances of taking the title.

Legion (2) (4 points) will hope to pick up more points in the run-in and lift themselves off the bottom of the table and overtaking second bottom Railway (2) (7 points), although Legion (2) have a game in hand.

Cliffburn (2) sits above both teams with eight points, giving themselves some breathing space from the dreaded bottom spot!

The run-in for this year’s titles looks set to be just as exciting as last year’s!

Arbroath Seniors

The GM Properties Arbroath Seniors Event 2012 will be played out on Saturday, April 7. The venue is still to be confirmed.

The entry criteria is that players must be aged 40 or over on the day of the tournament. This is the first time this event will have been held in the ADPL and will hopefully be a success and continued in future seasons.

The draw will be carried out in advance and it is likely a sign-in time of 11 a.m. will be in operation. The races on the day will be wholly dependant on the entries received. As a guide, it is hoped the competition will start with best of five as a minimum.

Entry to the competition will be £5 per player. Entries (with entry fee) should be received no later than 7 p.m. at the Ram’s Heid on Tuesday, April 3, in a sealed envelope addressed to the match secretary and/or treasurer. It is hoped the draw can be carried out that night.

Committee meeting

There will be a committee meeting on Monday at 7.30 p.m. in the Royal British Legion Scotland clubrooms. A full attendance is requested.
