A FORMER Arbroath teenager recently became the first person to reach a milestone in British Karate.
Ericka Barker (13) became the first person to win the British Karate Championship four years in a row as well as the prestigious Kawasoe Cup for the third year running at the UK Traditional Karate Championships in Paisley on March 16.
Ericka, a former pupil at Timmergreens Primary School and Arbroath High School, learned her art at Billy Wales Brothock Shotokan Karate Club where she received her second Dan black belt.
She entered six events at the competition in Paisley, winning gold in the Individual Kumite under 15, Ji-Ippon Kumite all grades, brown and black belt female Kata under-15 and Team Kata all grades under-15.
In the Open Kata under-15 all grades and the Team Kumite under 15 all grades Ericka received silver medals.
Sensei Kawasoe, Eighth Dan, presented Ericka with the Kawasoe Cup for best performer on the day.
Ericka now lives in Cardonald with her proud parents, Tracy and John Barker, and is now a member of Barrhead Karate Club.
