County players defeated at Perth

THE ANGUS County Darts team travelled to Perth on Saturday in the hopes of making it back to back wins - unfortunately, the home side just took the points, edging out Angus by two games.

The Women’s B team were up first and Angus didn’t start the day well, with Heather Thomson losing both legs to her opponent Kirsty Burns, who was the Women’s B team’s player of the match, having thrown a 17.28 dart average.

However, the next two Angus darts players had comfortable two-nil wins, taking the tie to 2-1 to Angus.

Amanda Smith had a chance to win the women’s B tie for the visitors, but despite having a better average than her opponent, she just lost out, going down 2-1.

The men’s B team haven’t fared too well in recent performances, and the players were keen to showcase their abilities.

First up for Angus was Ryan Cameron, who was called in to the squad on the day. Perhaps with a point to prove, he won his match without dropping a leg.

Simon Porter and Andy Donald weren’t as lucky, and despite gaining a leg each, they were edged out by their opponents.

The next two Angus players proved that the B team were making vast improvements in the county set-up, as they both went on to take their ties three legs to nil.

With both the women’s and men’s B teams having played, the match was a dead heat, with both sides having won five games.

Angus’ women’s A team was up next to face Perthshire, and they started well with their first two players cruising to victories. Angie Isbister raced in to a two leg lead, but rather unfortunately a shoe malfunction put her off her game and her opponent fought back to steal the match.

Unfortunately for the women’s A team, they went on to lose the next three ties, giving Perthshire a 9-7 lead overall.

The Men’s A team now needed to win by more than two games to ensure a victory for Angus, or at least make sure they won 7-5 to secure the draw.

It didn’t start well for the men, with their first three players all losing.

Paul Fairnington was on fourth for Angus and secured their first win, which was followed up by a second win from Wayne Law.

However, Perthshire won the next game, taking the men’s score to 4-2 to Perthshire.

Angus could only afford to lose one more game if they hoped to take anything from the match.

Andrew Stott was up next for Angus. He easily secured the win, hitting a single dart average of 29.79, which secured him players of the match as well as being the overall highest average on the day.

Angus unfortunately lost the next game, meaning that the best they could now hope for was a draw. It wasn’t to be however, as Mark Thomson lost out to Neil MacDougall, who hit Perthshire’s highest average of the day to take the Men’s A team competition to a six all draw.
