DUNDONIANS Jimmy Pollock and Josh Brannan retained their Ram’s Heid Scotch Doubles title when they defeated David Jack and Kevin Brown in the final by four frames to two in the Ram’s Heid. They were awarded the top prize of £100 each.

The semi-final line up saw Jimmy and Josh take on Arbroath pairing Greg Alexander and Graham Dunbar in a repeat of last year’s final. A tight affair saw Jimmy and Josh book themselves into the final with a four frames to two win.

In the other semi-final, Jonathan Cargill and Sean Hardwick, who negotiated the group stages and their quarter-final without conceding a frame, took on David and Kevin. A few mammoth tactical battles ensued in the match but Jonathan and Sean found themselves on the wrong end of a four frames to one defeat. Greg, Graham, Jonathan and Sean each won £25.

The final was a see-saw affair for the first four frames taking it to two frames all. In the fifth frame David and Kevin looked to be on course to take the lead but were unlucky with a split shot and from there Jimmy and Josh took out the frame to put themselves one frame from the title.

The next frame, as you would imagine, was a tactical battle with both teams playing great safety shots. Unfortunately David and Kevin found themselves on the back foot and were snookered. From the resulting snooker they attempted to go for the match but their attempt somehow found the black and potted it directly and with that handed the title to Jimmy and Josh.

This was something of an unfair ending for the Arbroath pairing, but for their sterling efforts they received £50 each.

Thanks were extended to Richard and Brenda Jones of the Ram’s Heid for continuing their support of the event.

Summer League

The Arbroath Summer Pool League is to be run for a second year. Any players interested should contact Michael Bastow and/or Graham Dunbar.

The basic concept will remain, with groups and a handicap system. However, races and or qualification to finals day may have to be altered, depending on the numbers involved. This is not an ‘open’ event, and players must have been a registered within the Arbroath & District Pool League for the past three seasons.

Last year, the entry fee was £20 per player (this is the maximum it would be to enter again this year). The sale of a football card was mandatory last year, this may be reviewed but again this will be confirmed before entry fees are taken.
