ARBROATH curler Duncan Menzies will skip the British curling team at the first winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which takes place in Innsbruck, Austria, next week.
The opening ceremony of the games takes place tonight (Friday) and the competitions begin tomorrow.
Duncan told the Arbroath Herald: “I am really excited about representing Team GB in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Representing your country is a great honour and pulling on the Team GB kit will be a special moment in my career.
“I’m going to give it 100 per cent and I am sure I will gain a great deal from the experience, on and off the field of play.”
Duncan is a member of Forfar Young Curlers and Letham Grange Curling Club and plays out of the Forfar rink most weekends.
He was invited to be skip a couple of months ago after victories in the Kinross Classic Under-21 and the National Super League.
He is a former pupil of Arbroath High School and is hoping to become a firefighter with Tayside Fire and Rescue Service.
His team comprises Angharad Ward, Tonbridge, Kent; Thomas Muirhead, Perthshire; and Rachel Hannen, Hamilton.
Duncan said: “We all get along really well and are hoping to get to the semi-final or the final of the competition.”
